The vertical village in Rosny in Seine-Saint-Denis, Ecotone in Arcueil in Val-de-Marne, the air bubble in Nanterre in Hauts-de-Seine and the gigantic Thousand Trees in Paris, that's her. The Phalsbourg company won a total of nine projects in the context of urban planning and architectural competitions launched by the city of Paris and the Greater Paris Metropolis.

Projects with a taste for challenge that are distinguished for the most part by their original and audacious character. Starting with the craziest of them all: Mille Arbres. A set of 60,000 m2 above the Paris ring road at Porte Maillot, planted with a real forest (Read below).
“To make beautiful and give meaning”

But beware, “A Thousand Trees is not just a magnificent building. It represents a true symbol of French know-how but also of the link between Paris and its suburbs”, specifies Philippe Journo, founding president of the Compagnie de Phalsbourg. A business leader who says he was "inspired" by the " Reinventing Paris " competition launched by Anne Hidalgo. "Our obsession is to dare and to make beautiful , and above all to give meaning ", he explains, it is certainly what allowed us to win".

Meaning and daring, two key ingredients that make up the common recipe for the Company's various winning projects. This is the case for example of NODE. Located on the postern of the poplars, between the ring road and the cemetery of Gentilly (94), this program brings together in the same signal building at the entrance of the city two very different services: a logistics space dedicated to the delivery of the last kilometer and a burial area. You had to dare. “One of my friends was confronted with the absence of a place of contemplation worthy of the name in Paris. It gave me the idea. Why should death be confined to gray and soulless places? “, emphasizes Philippe Journo.

Ditto for Ecotone in Arcueil in Val-de-Marne, one of the six projects won by the Company as part of the Inventons la Métropole du Grand Paris competition . Qualified as the “first fully biomimetic project”, the building, covered with a transparent structure, is inspired by nature. Built in the form of an artificial hill, it must accommodate a tertiary pole, a sports pole and a health pole while respecting the environment.
“Always where we are not expected”

“Each time, we wonder what we are used for, what we can bring,” confides the boss of the Compagnie de Phalsbourg. "We're in free style, we're always there, we're not expected", assumes, with a smile, the one who made himself known by creating a new generation of shopping centers, aesthetic and multifunctional, on the outskirts of cities. He is full of praise for his team, which continues to push its capacity for innovation and inventiveness ever further.

And Philippe Journo, who is already preparing to enter the ranks for the second Inventons la métropolis competition, which concerns 30 sites in Ile-de-France , ignores the critics denouncing his excessive appetite and predicting a difficult future for him. “We have a double responsibility, vis-à-vis those who trusted us and vis-à-vis those who will use our achievements, he reacts before concluding: in my job we have the moral duty to achieve objects that bear witness to our time. But the most important thing is that you should then be proud of what you have done”.
Thousand Trees, a real architectural and human challenge

"It will be the largest inhabited bridge building in the world", specifies Mathieu Boncour, director of institutional relations and sponsorship. The Thousand Trees project, joint work of two architectural firms, the Japanese Sou Fojimoto Architects and the French Manal Rachdi-Oxo Architects, carried by the Compagnie de Phalsbourg and the OGIC, represents a real architectural, technical and human challenge. .

Gigantic! The building, 37 meters high, 100 m long and 60 m wide, will include a total area of 60,000 m2 spread over several floors, a set of 127 apartments, more than 27,000 m2 of offices and a 4-star hotel. of 250 rooms. As well as a wooded park with, icing on the top of the cake, about twenty houses located at the top of the structure, in the middle of the greenery with a view of Paris.

A real city in the city, spanning the ring road between the Porte Maillot and Neuilly, which created arouses some sarcasm. Too crazy and too expensive to be feasible according to many of the promoter's competitors who predict a very bleak future for it. “Some people expect us to fail,” observes Philippe Journo who recognizes: “This project is extremely complex” but immediately continues: “it is precisely the challenge to be taken up that interests us. We have the wisdom to plant a thousand trees instead of making a tower of 1,000 m. Our concern is to be up to it”. And for this, the Company has set up a technical platform, a veritable “war room” which permanently brings together around thirty engineers, architects and technicians exclusively around the Mille Arbres program. " We are going forward ! ,

The public inquiry with impact study is scheduled for the start of the school year. The building permit expected for February 2019 for delivery... at the end of 2023. "But everything will depend on the appeals".
